Hand-picked Route YC food havens from Masterchef quarter-finalist - Hannah Gregory

Recently, we had the pleasure of hosting Hannah Gregory, MasterChef quarter-finalist and food and travel writer, at Route YC. During her stay, we asked Hannah to share her top restaurant recommendations with us, and boy, did she deliver! From fine dining to street food, Hannah has sampled it all, and now she's sharing her favourite spots with us.

Meet Hannah

Hannah Gregory is a professional chef and food writer who gained notoriety when she became a quarter-finalist in the BBC's MasterChef in 2020.

As well as her passion for cooking, Hannah loves to explore the world. Writing for many columns and titles, she recently visited the Yorkshire Coast with our pals from House of Coco to explore what Yorkshire's ultimate road trip, Route YC, had to offer.

Hannah was so taken with the Yorkshire Coast that she described it as a 'Food Lovers Dream'. With this in mind, we asked her to share some of her favourite restaurants so you can experience the same delicious culinary delights as she did.

Restaurant Recommendations

Hannah has hand-picked her top-rated restaurants from across Route YC to help you plan your ultimate road trip; find them all here.

Including traditional fayre from the famous Magpie Cafe in Whitby, this seafood restaurant is a must-visit for any fish and chips lover. With its old-world charm and fresh produce, it's no surprise that it's one of the most popular restaurants in town and made Hannah's list.

Moving on to Eat Me Cafe, located inside Scarborough's Stephen Joseph Theatre, here you can sample exotic flavours from around the world. The café offers an ever-changing menu inspired by the world's cuisines and seasonal ingredients, ensuring each visit brings a unique dining experience.

With so many delicious choices, there is something to suit everyone's tastes along the Yorkshire Coast!

Why the Yorkshire Coast

The Yorkshire Coast is the perfect destination for anyone who loves to combine culinary crusades into their travels.

The region is particularly renowned for its lobster, as the town of Bridlington actually is Europe's lobster capital. Every year, the town lands more of these delicious crustaceans, which can be found on the menus of many restaurants in the area.

In addition to seafood, Yorkshire is also home to hundreds of artisan cheesemakers, breweries, and farms that produce top-quality produce in the fresh sea air of the coast.

So whether you're looking for Michelin-starred fine dining or fancy cooking alfresco, the abundance of fresh ingredients from the sea and land make for an unforgettable culinary experience as you explore the area's vibrant food and drink scene – it will be an experience you won't forget.
