There is a beautiful little cluster of gardens in Filey, starting with Glen Gardens with its wide-open spaces, perfect for picnics, ball games, and children’s play area and café.In season it also has a boating pond and putting green/crazy golf.
Walking through this garden will take you down to the main promenade, or turn left and carry on into the more formal Crescent Gardens with its beautifully laid-out summer beds and rose garden. The traditional bandstand takes centre stage and still hosts brass bands at peak season.
Both of these gardens are from the 1830s; Glen Gardens was part of the original private estate of Ravine Hall, which is no longer there. Crescent Gardens were originally private promenade gardens for residents of the Crescent. Finally, the Nuns Walk Gardens wildlife haven was originally part of the Convent School for Girls.
All the gardens are connected and provide a lovely scenic alternative to walking through the town with all-important direct access to the beach.
