Ravenscar is a place of elevated views perfect for that Insta moment or a chance to explore the rugged coastal paths or perfectly manicured gardens of Raven Hall, perched on the clifftop.

It is steeped in history from its Roman signal station ruins to the remains of the alum mines. It was destined to become a holiday resort to rival nearby Scarborough, with plans made and plots sold. Sadly this never materialised but the remains of these grand plans can still be seen.

There are numerous walks from Ravenscar, a stunning, but steep, walk down to the rocky beach, which is a great place for fossil hunters. If you are lucky, you may just come across the seal colony, which likes to relax and bask along these coves. Walkers and cyclists will love the Cinder Track, which is part of the old Scarborough to Whitby railway line that passes through Ravenscar. You can also join the Cleveland Way National Trail here.

Certainly, a good place to start is at the royalty-rumoured Raven Hall Hotel which provides amazing panoramic views of the area. Stop for a coffee or refreshments in their restaurant while you decide which Ravanscar adventure you will undertake.
