Cayton Bay Beach

Cayton, Scarborough

Cayton Bay Beach is the perfect place for beach-goers and fossil hunters alike.

With its long sandy beach, Cayton Bay offers plenty of space for you and your four-legged friends to roam, and with all the different kinds of fossils that can be found on the beach, it's a prime spot for anyone looking to get their hands dirty.

Getting to the beach requires a bit of effort – access is a steep and long walk down, with steps at the bottom to help you get there – but what awaits at the beach more than makes up for it.

Enjoy tranquil sunsets and sunrises.

Great for a family dayout.

South of Scarborough lies Cayton Bay beach, a quieter sweep of fine sandy beach with cliffs as its dramatic backdrop. It is popular with surfers and windsurfers and home to one of the most extended established surf schools anywhere in the UK. You can do anything from Coasteering for thrill-seekers to the more relaxed, but equally as exerting Stand up Paddleboarding.

Suppose you are looking for a quieter stop-off on your Filey YC experience. In that case, this is also an excellent place for bird watchers and fossil hunters, as the cliffs here were formed in the Jurassic period around 150 million years ago.

If you are approaching from Cornelian Bay, you will see the World War Two fill boxes. This part of the bay is known as Johnny Flinton’s Harbour, although nobody knows who Johnny was! However, you might want to avert your eyes as this is known for being an unofficial naturist spot!
