Historic 12th-century church boasting panoramic views and cemetery referenced in the novel Dracula
Once one of the largest churches, but was largely destroyed during the siege of Scarborough Castle in the English Civil War, stands the Church of Saint Mary atop of Scarborough Old Town.Since it was built, Saint Marys has seen devastating action, going from a place of worship to a base to fire cannons at the Castle and the Castle returning fire. These monumental moments in the battling history of Scarborough left their Scars, but while now smaller, still displays its internal beauty from the 18th and 19th century.Scarborough as a place has both inspired Englands creatives minds to write, create and seek haven, like Anne Bronte, who died in 1849 and here you can still find her grave with the inscription."Here lie the remains of Anne Brontë, daughter of the Revd P. Brontë, Incumbent of Haworth, Yorkshire. She died Aged 28 May 28th 1849".
