Come and explore the spectacular Cornelian Bay nestled between Scarborough South Bay and White Nab. With its beautiful and serene scenery, it’s the perfect spot for a peaceful escape and exploration. Make sure to check the tide times as this bay is best visited at low tide as it can quickly become cut off. You might have to face a challenging climb, but it is well worth it
It is not recommended as an area to descend during bad weather. However, for seasoned scramblers and hikers, this may be a challenge you want to take as it gives a different backdrop with clay cliffs and gravels left behind from the Ice Age.
Top tip:
Tide Times app, good walking boots, and awareness of your own abilities are a must - not for the faint-hearted.
Between Scarborough South Bay and White Nab nestles Cornelian Bay. It is advised to check the tide times as this is an area best visited at low tide. You can quickly become cut off, and it is a challenging climb for most, but it usually means that this is a lesser-visited bay in peak months.
Suppose you try and access it from the top. In that case, you will need to prepare yourself for a steep descent and scramble across rocks to reach the bottom, and it is not recommended as an area to descend during lousy weather. However, for seasoned scramblers and hikers, this may be a challenge you want to take as it gives a different backdrop with clay cliffs and gravels left behind from the Ice Age.
You can find World War Two lookouts at the bottom, which create new moments and are lesser photographed backdrops, despite their rugged charm. You can continue your walk past Knipe Point to Cayton Bay, but the tides play an important factor, so you should only attempt at low tide, or you may end up trapped as the sea races in. When you reach the second pillbox, you can walk along the ridge at the top and scramble the other sides, and after a quick hop, skip and jump, you'll be on Cayton Bay sands.
Top tip: Tide times app, good walking boots and awareness of your own abilities is a must - not for the faint-hearted.
