Strike out North to the long, narrow peninsula named Filey Brigg. Twenty-meter-high cliffs steeped in history and a striking cliff face have a dramatic beauty that is teaming with wildlife. If the sea is calm, walk out to Briggs end, water surrounds it on three sides, paving the way for some incredible views across to Scarborough on clear days.

A walk or cycle along the promenade to see the 12ft high steel sculpture of a fisherman which stands on Filey’s Coble Landing is well worth it.
Entitled ‘A High Tide In Short Wellies’ is another Ray Lonsdale creation (see also Freddie Gilmore on the Scarborough Route). It’s beautiful to visit at sunrise and see the light bounce against the steel.

Filey's gardens are well worth a visit at any time of year. Starting with Glen Gardens on the south side, its wide-open parkland leads you to Crescent Gardens. You'll find generous rose beds and well-maintained borders surrounding the perimeter of the lawns on the interior. A central bandstand adds a touch of elegance and a stage for brass bands to play at various times of the year.
Continue onto the more wilderness gardens of Nun's Walk, which, as the name suggests, was originally part of the convent that stood here.
A must-visit Filey institution, Inghams Fish & Chips is located in the heart of the town; they're hard to beat.

Head over to Filey's old town, which sits just south of the Church Ravine. It is worth spending some time wandering around these few small streets to imagine the tiny fishing village that Filey would once have been.
Then make your way to the Country Park, a beautiful wild open space with its circular walk heading to the Brigg and accesses down to the beach used by Filey Sailing Club.
This is a great place to stop and view the circling gannets - watch the yachts and the world go by. You can walk back along the beach if the tide is out.

Take a day out to explore some of the Cleveland Way. Known for its dramatic views along the Yorkshire Coast, the Cleveland Way starts at Filey. You could take on the challenge from here or explore a little trip to Scarborough and back on this breathtaking cliff-top walk.
It’s over eight miles along the coastal path to Scarborough. So if you set off in good time in the morning, you could be on Scarborough seafront by lunchtime and walk it all off again on the way back.
Highlights along the way to look out for are the seal colony, dolphins, porpoises and a vast range of seabirds nesting along the cliffs.

This is a fantastic base for a luxury stay with all your home comforts and is ideal for a longer break to explore the area.

North of Filey lies Cayton Bay beach, a quieter sweep of fine sandy beach rolling around to a paradise-style cove in the north.
Cayton Bay is renowned for its surfing; if you need supplies, Scarborough Surf School is at the top of the bank at Cayton Bay. You can go solo and hire kit or join a group class, either way, don't miss your chance to ride some of the best breaks in the UK.
Jump over the road for lunch at The Tow Bar, a friendly place with lots of outdoor seating if the weather is fine.

After lunch, take a quieter back-to-nature approach and vifamily-runarby farm-turnedan excellent park, Playdale Farm. This family-run animal park is a great place for the kids to see and feed the animals in a natural farm environment. Still, it is also packed with a huge indoor play area, a soft play area, a tractor zone, an adventure trail and even outdoor climbing frames, a go-kart track, frisbee golf, and zip-wire. It's one that all ages can enjoy, and if you time your visit right, you might even get to see many of the animals being born, which is a unique experience to see upfront and close by.

Enjoy a change of pace and check out the Scarborough Fair Collection and Vintage Transport Museum. There are no dusty relics here; expect to see lovingly restored classics like Royal Enfields and Triumphs alongside a Model T Ford, Daimler and many more.
There's a chance to ride the classic fairground rides, and you can also treat yourself to a lavish afternoon tea.

Time to cycle off those sweet treats and explore the Hunmanby circular cycle path. An easy 13km ride with the least exposure to traffic that weaves through holiday parks into the countryside and village of Hunmanby.

You can also use their cycle repair station for adjustments after your ride before settling in for a cosy dinner in the pub.

Hunmanby Gap is a large expanse of sandy beaches that is perfect if you are looking for a quieter beach to explore. You can get there on foot from Filey (check the tide times), take a short cycle, or drive by road.
This unspoilt beach is the perfect place to take your four-legged friends, as this is an all-year-round dog-friendly beach.

This pub is well worth the 15-minute drive after you have explored Hunmanby Gap, as they use the best local produce in their extensive menu. This is a good allrounder for cyclists and walkers, fully accessible and dog-friendly inside and out.

Head back towards Filey and visit Hunmanby village, which is only a 10-minute drive from Flixton. Only a 10-minute train ride away from the station, you can pick up trail leaflets to help you explore this old market village. Choose from the Heritage Trail, Flower Trail map, or a 2.6-mile pub crawl for those searching for a pint that includes the Spirit of Yorkshire Distillery - the only Whisky Distillery in Yorkshire, for those who enjoy something stronger.

Stay at the Piebald Inn and feast your eyes on over 52 varieties of homemade pies before retiring to their comfortable garden-view rooms.
Final Day
So far, we’ve explored much of the north side of Filey on foot; now, to explore the cliff paths towards Flamborough Head to the south.
This 11.5 miles walk provides most of the route's superb views of Filey Bay and takes in the RSPB reserve at Bempton Cliffs, an awesome site to see nesting seabirds, including Puffins, Razorbills and Kittiwakes.
